Build Better Collaborative | Financing Neighborhood-Scale Homes
The Build Better Collaborative (BBC) brings together the people creating homes and shaping neighborhoods across the Wasatch Region. Many small-scale builders, architects, planners, and housing innovators work on their own. BBC gives them a place to connect, learn from each other, and solve problems together.
We gather around three goals:
- Build connections among the professionals behind neighborhood-scale housing, so relationships grow into partnerships and projects.
- Share what works, from backyard cottages and duplexes to cottage courts and adaptive reuse, and build the skills to deliver those projects locally.
- Clear the path by documenting the barriers small-scale builders face and turning them into practical recommendations for local leaders.
We meet in person each month at 4:00 PM at Indie Square in Murray. Each gathering takes on a different part of how homes get built, such as financing, design, approvals, or construction, led by practitioners who work on it every day. You’ll hear a short presentation, then join a group conversation where attendees share a win or a lesson learned from their own work.
Builders and developers, architects, planners, lenders, and anyone interested in building homes at a neighborhood scale are welcome, whether you’re experienced or working on your first project.
Join us for our November gathering: Financing Neighborhood-Scale Homes
Thursday, November 12 | 4:00 to 5:30 PM | Indie Square, Murray
Presentations by Shawna Cuan, CEO and Co-Founder of Sustain Energy Finance, and Bennion Gardner, Vice President of Business Services at Cyprus Credit Union and WALC board member
How does a small housing project actually get financed? Shawna and Bennion work on the money side of building, and they’ll share what they’ve learned. Afterward, we’ll open it up for group conversation. Bring a win or a lesson learned to share. No finance experience needed.
Light refreshments provided. Parking is available on site.
