At our August meeting, our board voted to take a bold and exciting next step in our organization’s journey: Salt Lake County Neighbors for More Neighbors is growing to become Wasatch Advocates for Livable Communities.
This name change reflects more than just a new name, it marks the beginning of a new chapter in our work to promote housing options and affordability, livable neighborhoods, and community development across the entire Wasatch Region.
From Local Roots to Regional Leadership
Since our founding, we’ve worked tirelessly to advance smart housing policies and push back on exclusionary zoning that limits who gets to live and thrive in our communities. We’ve organized to support critical zoning updates in Salt Lake City including the RMF30 zone updates, Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) updates, single-room occupancy, mixed-use zoning consolidation, and parking reforms.
We’ve organized impactful campaigns, hosted events, and empowered local residents to take action in support of housing policies that can create options and affordability for everyone’s needs.
This work has always been grounded in collaboration: with city leaders, grassroots advocates, and neighbors from across the region. As housing challenges have grown beyond city borders, so has the demand for a more connected and strategic regional approach. That’s why we’re expanding our mission to serve the entire Wasatch Region, including Davis, Salt Lake, Summit, Utah, Weber, and Wasatch counties, with campaigns possible in other counties.
What’s Ahead
In the coming months, we’ll be rolling out a full rebrand: new logo, new website, and new communications that reflect our expanded mission but the values and work of our organization will not change.
We’re also hiring new staff who will help us make this transition and scale up our capacity to increase our impact throughout the Wasatch Region.
This isn’t just about growth: it’s about deepening our impact. As Wasatch Advocates for Livable Communities, we’ll continue to champion:
- Affordable and diverse housing options
- Zoning reforms that support affordability and attainable
- Public land use that prioritizes community benefits and civic culture
- Transportation and planning systems that connect people to community and opportunity
We're also expanding our mission to include new areas of focus that will strengthen the livability and resilience of communities across the Wasatch Region:
- Local governance reform that increases transparency and accountability
- Community planning that centers public input, opportunity, and long-term vision
- Regional transportation solutions that reduce barriers and expand access with the goal of decreasing the amount of time residents spend commuting
Join the Team
We're hiring three new positions to implement these changes and to grow our impact. The following positions are open until they are filled and we're seeking qualified applicants to join our team:
Policy Manager (Closed September 30th)
External Affairs Manager (Closed October 24th)
Membership Organizer (Closed October 24th)
Thank You
To all of our supporters, volunteers, board members, and partners: thank you for believing in this work. Your energy, ideas, and advocacy have helped shape a stronger housing movement in Utah. We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished together, and even more excited for what’s ahead.
Let’s keep building a region with room for more neighbors, more voices, and more livable communities for all.
With gratitude and determination,
The Wasatch Advocates for Livable Communities Team
